Reading

Sunrise Edition

As students approach the teen years, they begin to face bigger decisions. Our seventh-grade reader The Road Less Traveled presents examples of others whose early choices affected their lives. Selections include character-building parables from nature, stories of pioneer trailblazing, examples of living for others, incentives for seeking true treasures, and exhortation to humility. Two or three lessons a week provide a year’s work.

The accompanying LightUnits lead students to understand that the well-traveled road is not always the best road. Exercises help students increase comprehension, evaluate what they read, and apply it to themselves and their situations.

An optional Teacher’s Guide provides brief teacher’s notes, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests.

Bible

Sunrise Edition

Sunrise Bible 700 is a study of the Gospels. The first LightUnit begins witha brief overview of each Gospel’s unique characteristics. Lessons in the rest of the course follow the chronological order of the Gospel of Luke but include events and teachings from the other Gospels. Each lesson directs the student to read a given portion of Scripture. This Scripture passage is then explained in the LightUnit and followed by activities that help the student interact with what they have learned. The course also teaches students how to use Strong’s Concordance. Bible memory work is included.

Language Arts

Sunrise Edition

Language Arts 700 integrates grammar, spelling, and penmanship into one easy-to-use package. Grammar and punctuation skills are introduced incrementally at the beginning of each daily lesson, followed by exercises reviewing the latest material as well as more familiar, almost-mastered skills. Each day’s lesson concludes with penmanship and spelling practice.

In LightUnit 707, students read But Not Forsaken, a book about refugees after WWII, and do a literary analysis of the story. This full-year course also covers active and passive voice, verbals, clauses, compound and complex sentence structure, writing an exposition, consistent verb tenses, and dangling/misplaced modifiers.

The optional Teacher's Guide provides teacher's notes, spelling word lists, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests.

Math

Sunrise Edition

Math LightUnit 701 tests and reviews concepts that should have been mastered in sixth grade to verify readiness for the Math 700 level.

The remaining LightUnits introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement.

Math 700 themes, one distinct theme per LightUnit, are based on Christian occupations and a Biblical worldview of business, family, and personal finances. This practical emphasis on realistic problem-solving is balanced with continued advancement in geometry and pre-algebra.

We assume student proficiency in the basic facts and the four mathematical operations, but still provide daily practice to keep skills fresh, along with mastery drills on geometry formulas, definitions, and other math facts.

The Teacher's Guides give teaching tips, extra practice, solutions, LightUnit answers, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guides are purchased.
