Reading

Sunrise Edition

Reading 300 continues our tradition with reader stories that not only inform and entertain, but also edify and inspire character. No time is wasted on fairy tales and fantasy. Our stories teach lessons in how to deal with life's problems with integrity and courage.

The stories and poems in the reader open doors to important questions: Is it possible that Kenny is too honest? Is it necessary that Johnny Liklak learn to read when he’d rather be walrus hunting? How can a boy who broke a vase be a hero? The LightUnits teach logical thinking, figurative language, and how to improve study and oral reading skills.

The Teacher’s Guide provides answers to the LightUnits, ideas, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests for students who need to redo a test. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

We are offering an alternate Quiz 1 for each of these LightUnits.

New!!

Classroom schools have said, "We like the CLE readers, but could the student material be in worksheet format?" We listened and are releasing the preliminary edition of the Grade 3 Reader Worksheets to go with our hardcover reader, Doors to Discovery. We will refine these worksheets using feedback from users.

The worksheets are bound in two booklets, each containing 30 two-page lessons for a total of 60 lessons. Quizzes and tests are sold separately.

A Teacher's Guide gives daily lesson notes with tips for introducing stories and discussing them with your class, and includes reproductions of student pages with answers filled in.

Bible

Sunrise Edition

Bible 300 introduces the student to the first four books of the New Testament. The first LightUnit is a story that acquaints students with Jewish culture and customs during the time of Christ. The remainder of the course is a study of the Gospels that will continue into fourth grade.

Each lesson contains an interesting story from Jesus’ life and workbook activities. Each LightUnit has two quizzes and a test. By doing two or three lessons per week, this course will cover the entire school year.

The Teacher’s Guide gives objectives and suggestions for teaching each lesson and provides alternate LightUnit tests for students who need to make up for a failing test score. Reproductions of all the LightUnit pages, quizzes, and tests are included with the answers filled in. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

Language Arts

Sunrise Edition

Language Arts 300 integrates grammar, spelling, and penmanship into one easy-to-use course. Each lesson begins with grammar and punctuation skills introduced in small increments. Next is review on material from the previous lesson and some of the material from earlier lessons. A daily penmanship activity is followed by practice on a weekly spelling word list.

The handy Language Arts Reference Chart for grades 3 and 4, a durably laminated two-sided information sheet, provides a quick resource for students who struggle to remember the parts of speech, punctuation rules, the parts of a friendly letter, and much more.

The Teacher's Guide includes answers to the LightUnits, ideas, spelling word lists, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests for students who need to redo a test. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

Math

Sunrise Edition

Math LightUnit 301 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Math 300. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.

The remaining LightUnits review previously taught concepts in Math 200 and introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement. Students acquire a full understanding of both systems.

CLE’s coded addition/subtraction flash cards and any multiplication/division flash cards are required for this course. By the end of the course, students should have memorized the multiplication tables up to 10.

Each LightUnit incorporates a theme into its daily story problems, adding a practical component to math. Themes in Math 300 include insects, cooking, the ocean, and a family vacation to Yellowstone National Park.

The Teacher's Guide provides answers to the LightUnits, ideas, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

Social Studies

Sunrise Edition

This course uses the text Living Together on God’s Earth, a study of communities. The student first recognizes his community as one small part of the earth, then explores four communities of Bible times, one European community, one American community, and the old and new countries of Israel.

You have two options for this course: use the LightUnits study guides, or follow the textbook exercises. Both options require the textbook.

The LightUnits provide exercises, daily review, quizzes, and tests. LightUnit 306 is optional for those preferring a five-LightUnit course. Teacher materials include LightUnit answers, discussion/activity ideas, and reproducible maps. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

For a textbook study, use the questions provided in the text. Teacher material for this method contains answers to these questions, discussion ideas, reproducible maps, and answers to the test questions. A separate test booklet contains all the tests needed for one student to complete this course. For map activities, purchase the student pack of outline maps or use the masters in the Teacher's Guide.
