Teach students not just to read well, but to think well! This half-year course includes five LightUnit workbooks, a reader, and a Teacher’s Guide. The Answer Keys are not required if you have the Teacher’s Guide.

The course covers literary elements such as conflict, theme, and tone; literary techniques such as metaphors, symbols, allusions, irony, and foreshadowing; literary genres; critical thinking skills; and more.

As a five-LightUnit course, Reading 8 takes only one semester to complete. Having class every other day is one way to spread the course over the entire school year. View the course scope and sequence.

Sunrise Edition

Bible 8 helps students better understand and more deeply appreciate the New Testament. Bible 8 continues the study of the New Testament begun in Bible 7. The first four LightUnits cover the Book of Acts, and the remaining LightUnits contain brief overviews of the Epistles and Revelation.

Each lesson directs the student to read a portion of Scripture and provides commentary that explains the passage. The course includes exercises using Strong's Exhaustive Bible Concordance and Baker’s Bible Atlas. Map work helps students understand where events happened. All Christian Light Bible courses use the King James Version. The course includes Bible memory work.

Sunrise 2nd Edition

Language Arts 8 integrates grammar, spelling, and writing into one easy-to-use course. Use Christian Light’s Language Arts Diagnostic Test to place students new to the curriculum. New concepts are not tested until they have been reviewed at least four times.

Students study infinitive phrases, transitive and intransitive verbs, compound-complex sentences, and perfect and progressive verb tenses. Each LightUnit includes at least two lessons of writing instruction, in addition to periodic journaling exercises. Most LightUnits include penmanship exercises. The three spelling lists in each LightUnit include twenty words each. In LightUnit 807, students write a research paper.

The course consists of ten LightUnit workbooks and two Teacher’s Guides. The Answer Keys are not required if you purchase the Teacher’s Guides.

Sunrise Edition

Sunrise Math 8 teaches new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. Concepts are tested only after being reviewed for five days or more. Use Christian Light’s Math Diagnostic Test to place students new to the curriculum.

Unit themes center on family businesses. Pre-algebra and geometry concepts, proportions, and solving/graphing linear equations on a coordinate plane equip students with skills for real-world problems. Unit 10 covers banking, budgeting, and balancing a checkbook. This pre-algebra course prepares students for any high school Algebra I course. Math 8 offers two study options:

LightUnit Study Method

LightUnit workbooks allow students to do their work right on the page. They can be less intimidating to students and easier to handle than a textbook. The LightUnit study method consists of ten LightUnits and two Teacher’s Guides. Two Answer Keys are optional. View the course scope and sequence.

Textbook Study Method

Available June 2024.

The textbook uses the same methodology and covers the same material as the LightUnits, though the sequence is sometimes different. The textbook is more colorful than the LightUnits and makes it easier for students to refer to previous lessons. Students must write their answers on other paper (except on quizzes and tests). Preprinted speed/mastery drills are provided in the Student Material.

The textbook study method consists of one Textbook, one pack of Student Material, and either a Teacher’s Guide or a Full Solution Answer Key (your choice). View the course scope and sequence.

Science 8 covers theories of matter, the balance of nature, health and nutrition, energy, electricity, and machines. Because this is not a Sunrise Edition course, the material is presented in larger sections rather than daily lessons. Each section ends with a self test, which is similar to a quiz. Science supplies for this course are available from Home Science Tools.

The course includes ten LightUnit workbooks and five Answer Keys. Each LightUnit workbook can be completed in about three weeks.

Sunrise Edition

Social Studies 8 is based on the textbook Changing Frontiers, a history of the United States that attempts to be honest and fair. Students follow American history through the formation, growth, and struggles of the nation. Christian Light Social Studies courses reflect the Anabaptist perspectives of the two-kingdom concept of separation of church and state and non-participation in war.

LightUnit Study Method

The LightUnit study is recommended for homeschools and schools where teacher involvement is limited. LightUnits provide exercises, daily review, quizzes, and tests. The LightUnit study method includes ten LightUnit workbooks, a textbook, and two Answer Keys.

Worksheet Study Method

The Worksheet study is designed for classrooms and requires more teacher involvement. Because worksheet exercises do not include reviews, the teacher must prepare students for tests through regular oral review. The Worksheets provides a total of 163 lessons, including tests and reviews. In addition to the textbook, this study method includes two Worksheet booklets, one Tests & Reviews Pack, and two Answer Keys.
