"Tode" is a street boy who lives by lying and stealing. When he meets the bishop Phillips Brooks, he resolves to change. The bishop influences him deeply, and Tode loves him. To be like the bishop is not easy, but Tode changes his life in remarkable ways in order to be the bishop's "shadow."
