A personal academic counselor will be assigned to your family. Your counselor will be able to answer any questions you may have about the "CLE Homeschool Plus" program, and will be available to assist you in making decisions that affect your child's education from beginning placement to graduation with a CLE diploma. Having someone to talk to who is familiar with your family and student records makes it simpler and more efficient when you call. All our counselors are committed to caring and professional customer relations, but if you have found someone on our staff to be particularly helpful and that you are comfortable dealing with, you are welcome to request that person as your counselor. You may call your counselor toll-free at any time during normal business hours. Help is also available by mail, fax, or by sending an e-mail to Homeschool@clp.org.
The CLE Homeschool Handbook is a tool to provide help for parents who wish to teach their children at home. At Christian Light Education we understand the challenges that home schooling families face. An organized approach to teaching at home will help you persevere in the task God has called you to perform. We do want to help you. We believe the CLE Homeschool Handbook contains both principles and procedures to help you operate a successful homeschool. The handbook is also the text for CLE's Homeschool Teacher Training whether it is taken at home or at a CLE Summer Training Session.
Some features of the Homeschool Handbook include:
- Answers to many questions you will face as a new homeschool family
- Outlines the responsibilities and privileges of homeschooling
- Offers tips and suggestions for organization
- Contains a mini-course in teaching
- Filled with encouragement and resources
- Serves as a link to the CLE Homeschool Plus program
- Helps you benefit from the experience and wisdom of others

Three issues of this newsletter are sent to any homeschool family using CLE curriculum. Homeschool Plus families receive six issues on a bimonthly basis. It contains many interesting articles relating to home schooling as well as general information about CLE curriculum.

We know there are many choices of programs available to homeschool families. We encourage you to provide stability for your students in their educational opportunities. We want to be your choice as long as you need record keeping services. Therefore, we provide the following incentives based on the number of consecutive years you use our services.
a. $20 credit for renewing into our program for the 2nd through the 4th year.
b. $35 credit for renewing into our program for the 5th through the 9th year.
c. $50 credit for renewing into our program for the 10th year and beyond.
This credit is available each year. You may deduct it from your renewal total if you have verified the correct amount by contacting CLE by phone or e-mail. If you mail in the full amount without the credit deducted, we will apply the credit to your account for future use. The credit is non-refundable.
Christian Light Education curriculum has been successfully helping students since 1980. CLE's wide range of options meets many different needs. From preschool through high school, CLE offers complete academic education, plus hard-to-find electives such as carpentry, small gas engine repair, home economics, and more.
CLE is an investment in your child's educational and spiritual future that you can afford - as little as $25 per month per student for the full curriculum. You can also pick and choose individual courses and order only what you need.
CLE curriculum emphasizes wholesome morals, godly character training, family values, modesty, simplicity, and thrift. A creationist life-view leads students to marvel at the wonder of God's work in nature. In each course our goal is to look at the student from God's perspective. Parents using CLE continually report above average achievement on standardized test scores. CLE believes that quality of learning is more important than quantity of material.
The CLE program is based on a series of work-texts called LightUnits. Each LightUnit is a complete self-contained educational unit that has everything a child needs to learn. Students work at their own pace often completing a single LightUnit in 3 weeks. There are ten LightUnits per course. CLE's courses are available as a full 6-subject program, as individual courses, or even individual LightUnits. No matter what you choose, CLE's staff is here to help you. Textbooks are used in some courses.
CLE Homeschool Plus families may purchase achievement tests for those students who are enrolled in the program during the current school year. The California Achievement Test (CAT) provides national norms for evaluating student progress in comparison to other students of the same age, and for diagnosing areas of academic weakness so remedial steps can be planned. (The cost of the achievement tests is not included as part of the CLE Homeschool Plus fees.) Achievement tests also help to determine the recommended starting place for your student in CLE's Bible, Science, Social Studies, and Reading.
Diagnostic tests measure a student's knowledge of the material contained in CLE's Language Arts and Math courses. (The cost of the diagnostic tests is not included as part of the CLE Homeschool Plus fees.) These tests will help you decide where your student should begin in these subjects. Diagnostic tests are called "criterion-referenced tests," because they test a student's knowledge of a specific curriculum or body of information.
The Quarterly Progress Report is a log of your student's academic work and attendance. The information on this report is recorded at CLE as the basis of your student's permanent record and transcript. You can report by using the manual or e-mail forms, which CLE provides free of charge when you are enrolled in Homeschool Plus.
The high school academic projection is a goal-setting tool designed to help you and your students get the most out of the secondary years of their education. It "projects" the courses a student will take through his high school years.
CLE maintains a file for each enrolled student. This is based on the Quarterly Progress Reports and various other forms provided by CLE. All needed forms are included in the program fee. Our records would include the following:
- A transcript of student's work from previous schools, if available.
- A record of academic work and attendance while in our program.
- A profile of the student's standardized (achievement) test results.
CLE provides you with manual report cards that you can keep for your own records. We will also send you computerized report cards each quarter.
From your student's permanent records we can provide feedback to assist you in your program, verify the progress of your homeschool if questioned by school officials or other authorities, and send professional transcripts and/or recommendations to other schools.
To help provide you with general oversight and accountability, your CLE personal academic counselor will contact you periodically. It may be a general follow up on how things are going in your home education process. It may be a follow up on items that need clarification. Along with the report cards we send each quarter, we will include a clarification letter if there are specific items that need clarification. These follow-ups are not meant to be bothersome, but a means by which we can maintain regular contact with our families for encouragement and support.
CLE provides the opportunity for seniors and early graduates to prove their achievement by passing the CLE Diploma Qualifying Test. However, acceptable alternatives to this test include the S.A.T., A.C.T, or G.E.D. tests. The performance level on these tests help to determine if the student can qualify for the particular diploma they are pursuing. This provides another form of credibility for the diploma you have earned when dealing with other authorities.
CLE offers Grade 8 and High School CLE diplomas to those students who successfully complete the work required for graduation. This provides a tangible and recognized verification of completed studies. CLE graduates have been accepted into over 175 colleges and universities worldwide.
Transcripts are provided for students who are currently enrolled in the CLE Homeschool Plus program or who have been enrolled in the past. Transcripts are the official record of high school credits earned showing the student's grade point average for work completed while enrolled in our program, and are based on what has been reported to us on the Quarterly Progress Reports. CLE transcripts will also include previous credits from other schools if we have received a transcript from the school.
You may come into our program at any time during the year. You will always get a full year of service for the enrollment fee and the annual renewal fee each year thereafter.
Although the majority of our students study on a traditional school year (August or September through May or June), CLE is a year-round program and you have the privilege of defining your school year to meet your needs. Once you have defined your school year, your fee will cover one full year from your school year starting date. Each year there will be a renewal fee for the family plus a service fee for each student enrolled. Renewal notices will be sent 45 to 60 days prior to expiration.
CLE does make recommendations concerning the amount of work a student should complete each school year. However, we recognize that there are a variety of situations, in which a student may need to work at a faster or slower pace. Our individualized approach is well suited to accommodate these needs.
Because many of our courses are LightUnit courses, it is much easier to budget dollars available for curriculum. You may purchase a full year's curriculum or divide it into quarterly or monthly purchases.
CLE curriculum is well suited for students to work on an independent level. Therefore a parent could be teaching multiple grade levels and function in an orderly manner. Students can work by themselves. Special symbols in the margins of the LightUnits tell them when to call on you. Self-scoring answer keys allow students to check their own work. You may enroll as many students as you can handle, while you are enrolled in our program.
A student simply needs to complete three CLE courses for every year he or she is enrolled in our program. For the remainder of courses needed each year, CLE allows you to use curriculum from other publishers (if desired) or they can be more CLE courses.
